Hello i installed tweakxp on my computer and ran some of the tweaks efverything went fine i thought. but now i no longer have my cd drives one is a cdrw and the other is a dvd-rom they are present in the device manager however when i look at the settings they have the following error listed;
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)
Does anyone know how which settings to change. i even did a restore to before i installed tweak xp and it didn't fix the problem.

Your registry may be bad. (Code 19)
To check your registry, click Check Registry. If the registry is bad, Windows will restart your system and go back to a previous registry that is good.
Solution button: Check Registry
This code means that the registry returned an unknown result.
To resolve this issue, follow the recommended solution, which will run Scanreg.exe. If this does not resolve the issue, type "scanreg /restore" (without quotation marks) from a command prompt. Finally, remove the device from Device Manager, and then redetect it using the Add New Hardware tool in Control Panel.

Hi Smitty - take care with the link mentioned - J believe this thread concerns already WinXP, wich is more Win2K like as far as registry is involved.

I've tried the ad new hardware and it just pops saying that the driver version is the most current and reinstalls but still won't recognize the dirves.

Did you try and remove the drives in the Device Manager, and then reboot so that plug-and-play has to detect them fresh ?
(post moved from Registry to WinXP cause WinXP-Pro related)

I had the same problem with my Sony Burner, I can't remember how I fixed the damn problem but I remember it only took me 5 minutes... It was something to do with the drive letters... I'll get back to you if I remember it

Soloman: RE-Installing is possible while the drive isn't defective only windows doesn't recognice it right anymore.
For the problem: look into the device manager what name is displayed for the device. goto the inf directory under windows. find the inf file for that device en delete it. now remove it from the device manager. after a reboot it will ask for the right selection or a disk. it will nolonger use the cache drivers. after that goto the update site of MS by you link in the start menu. There is a update for cdr-w and DVD players.
