Hi just wondered if anyone knows how to get my Lan systray icon to report Bytes sent and received rather than packets, i have seen both on diffrent PC's and cannot find anywhere to set it. Also my Lan connection reports 10MB rather than the actual speed from my cable modem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated for this annoyance...

"...i have seen both on diffrent PC's and cannot find anywhere to set it..."
haven't seen a switch for this, my reports are always bytes. But J have the 3com (manufacturer of my NIC) utility also running and it reports traffic as packets.

"...Lan connection reports 10MB rather than the actual speed from my cable modem..."
the 10mb speed is that of your network card (or the max speed your nic can achieve) and your cable modem is running on the "network", even if it is only a patch cable connecting your machine to the cable modem. You machine cannot know anything about the "other" leg of the network, the one that's running between your cable modem and your ISP. Should your nic be able of running 10/100mb, that means that the cable modem is using a 10mb nic on your side.

So the Guru doesn't know then..... if you don't kno w, then don't post and patronise me!!! If you read what you put it doesn't say ANYTHING!!!!!!

I already said i had seen both, i know the lan card is reporting the total size of the Network that is why i asked if it can be changed!!! Not what it was..

Thanks anyway... i shall keep looking

nrnojo, is this your thread or that of pdhicks ? Or are you using two nicknames ?

"...you read what you put it doesn't say ANYTHING..."
it does say:
(1) most probably no such switch - sure, even a "guru" cannot know everything (PS. the guru label is not self-applied but allocated by the forums software, and not necessarily by good advice given but by quantity).
(2) look for a utility of your nic manufacturer.

Based on my past readings of RWSchlatter's postings.... He knows quite alot and this forum is lucky that he has devoted so much of his own personal time to help others. Without a doubt, the Guru label is the proper designation.

For me.... ya Im hooked alright :)

You sound disturbed MrMojo. Maybe you should count your bytes somewhere else, I think it sounds like a task you might be able to handle.

I like Richard's post's and I don't even have to agree with them. I don't like yours. BTW learn to spell it will add impact to what you are trying to say.

I never mean't to offend anyone, i asked a question which i know there must be an answer for, then everyone starts posting!! No answers though!!! Strange that, why pop up and have a go when you obviously have nothing to say other than have a go over spelling of all things. I thought this may be an informative and mature site to post but obviously we can all be wrong.

As for you Smitty!!! what was the point of posting that???
