Floppy Drive Seek during Windows Start-up.

Until a day ago, the floppy drive would just start to try to access something on that drive with no apparent reason. Should I be concerned? Its also never happened before, so why should it start up now? Note: I also have Search for new Floppy Disk Drives each time your computer starts disabled.

did you install new antivirus software ?
Often such software will check by default if a floppy is in the drive and verify the boot sector etc.

did you change any cmos settings ?
can sometimes be set so that diskette drive will not be checked during boot of machine - may have been reset in your case.

It maybe microsoft fastfind or findfast searching to catalog the drives I noticed it real bad after I had saved some stuff on disk drive A: and about every two hours it seemed to start the search.........

if you do ...... you can just double click on the fast find .exe and a control panel will come up disable it

it you ctrl alt del and look in the box you will see it if it is running says fast find or find fast been awhile since i got rid of it

microsoft has an article on how to disable it

Are you saying you want it back or for it to stop?

One of the most common causes of excessive floppy drive queries is a PIF shortcut pointing to the floppy drive. A PIF shortcut is one that points to a DOS program while an LNK shortcut points to a Windows program.
Open Windows explorer to the c:\windows\recent directory and delete all the shortcuts here.

Or Right-click on the taskbar, choose properties, click the Start Menu Programs tab and click the Clear button.

Thank you for all your suggestions! I did all your suggestions and reghakr's solution worked. When I went into /Windows/Recent, my floppy drive was accessed the same way it was during Windows startup. So thanks again, guys.
