I have a P3 win 98SE machine with an external USR 56K modem. My problem is that the modem seems to hang in so far as I will click on a link, or a new page or whatever and nothing seems to happen. That is no lights show on the modem and the system just sits there for up to 3 or more minutes and then will come to life, lights flash and the system works. This problem has been around for some months and is present on 2 machines with W98SE and the same modem BUT I have changed modems to an internal lucent ( no difference) changed ISP's (no difference) and I have asked everybody I meet ( no answers) A compac laptop W95,plugged into the same outlet and with the same ISP's does not behave this way and responds immediately every time. Has anybody encountered this problem? and is there a solution? Thanks.

Have you tryed to clean up your hard drive
open internet explorer at the top go tools/internet options
when the options window opens
in the internet options panel you will see delete cookies --- delete history --- delete files
click on each one of this will do some clean up
next go thur and click on each tab at the top click on the buttons that says restore defaults or reset
remember to click apply after each one
go though each one internet zones and reset the defaults you have to click on each picture at the top to see each zone
try this if it doesn't work then we will hit up your modem driver and settings
after you have done these things reboot your computer
Thanks
