Are there any other companys that make disk utilities like defrag and scandisk or are we stuck with microsofts junky norton stuff

Mac, if you are using Win9x to defrag then try using WinME defrag, it is extremely fast. You can find it at www.surecool.com on their downloads page.
I found no speed improvements with WnME scandisk though.

Thanks!!! I did try the newer version it did seem to speed things up....My drives where pretty much defrag to start with ... I got the temp internet files on my old drive ...on that defrag it seemed to wix on thur that drive......
What am looking for is a better software program that I can use to look at my drives and control what is being done because in the past I have had some bad stuff happen from using scandisk to repair a drive and I just dont want that to happen to me...... I have had my computer show a boot sector error after running that online virus scanner from sysmectic I got lucky and recovered but i just want to go deeper ....I don't have the program on my hp disk to make a boot sector recover disk hp did not include that one........I saw a file at the microsoft site that I need to run........
I do not want the software to be made by norton.........
