Dial Up Connection

For days now once I am connected to the Web. the only way to disconnect is to press C/A/Delete, and select end task of Browser, then select Shut Down.
I can right click the connection icon in my tray and select Disconnect many times but it doesn't disconnect.
I had used System Mechanic to change a few things before this started happening, I've changed everything back but I still cannot disconnect normally.

I had problem like that but is was the yahoo beta version holding the connection open ...since then i have downloaded the yahoo and MSN non beta version and the problem went away
