I've just bought an Elite K7S5A mobo to start upgrading my P2/333 system. I have 256MB of PC133 memory and the mobo supports 2xDRAM & 2xDDR DIMMS. I can buy either an Athlon 1.2GHz or a 1.2GHz 'running on DDR' - extra £10. If I bought the DDR based CPU would it run my existing PC133 memory, or will it only work with DDR based memory?
Thanks
Brian

That should work with your existing PC133 memory, but I would really suggest using DDR because not only does it support it, but it would greatly improve your system performance. If I had a DDR mobo with a DDR processor, I would buy DDR memory and a DDR video card because it would be a really fast gaming rig. But of course, that's just me.

I would have to agree with Paradigm, if i had the a DDR system i would use DDR, but if i didn't have the money to get the DDR mem at the time i would just use my old mem until i got the DDR mem, but i wouldn't mix the to mems up.

Thanks to Paradigm & DJ-Kain.
As I'm going to spend £170 on the mobo & cpu, I may as well stretch the budget by £33 ($41) for 256Mb DDR2100. I can always give my brother the old mobo/cpu/RAM to upgrade his old 486!! I'm going to Orlando on vacation in September, maybe I will wait and see if US prices are better than the UK?
Thanks again Brian
