Hey guys,
I used to be able to power on my computer by hitting any key on keyboard. Seems like this function has gone for a while after I added a secondary hard drive. Maybe just coinceidence with the second HD, because this happened before and no 2nd HD installed by that time, it was fixed after I reloaded the windows 2000. Didn't do anything on power settings or not as I remembered, :-).
Any one knows sth about this?

except if you had a specially designed keyboard from your manufacturer with a special driver, no IBM-compatible PC starts cold from the keyboard (has a mains power switch located on the keyboard).
J expect you have had ACPI settings that allowed your machine to drop into sleep mode or hibernation mode, saving the current machine state without shutting down the operating system, and then beeing able to restart within seconds in the previous condition.
Cause of this J assume that you have reset the ACPI. Check (a) CMOS settings, and (b) the Power applet. Check also the Hardware porperties of your machine, especially the information concerning the hard disk. The devices and their drivers must also be prepared to support ACPI.

there ARE some motherboards that allow the user to boot the computer from a hard shutdown by simply pressing either "any key" or by pressing a combination ok keys.
check your BIOS... possibly under boot options or where you set how your power button works (shutdown vs hibernate)
