Got the problem that I want to use programs like Pro/E or OpusStudio (that are using flexlm license manager) on a standalone win2k workstation. Since flexlm uses the networkadapter for binding the license to the machine it somehow needs its output (Host-ID ?, etc)

Now win2k seems to deactivate the networkadapter when no cable is plugged into.

So I tested the output from ipconfig /all on an nt4 plugged/unplugged (same result) and on a win2k it differs between plugged/unplugged

win2k plugged:

Windows 2000-IP-Konfiguration

Host-Name . . . . . . . . . : nt17
Primäres DNS-Suffix . . .:
Knotentyp . . . . . . . . . : Broadcastadapter
IP-Routing aktiviert. . . . : Nein
WINS-Proxy aktiviert. . . . : Nein
DNS-Suffixsuchliste . . . .: domain

Ethernet-Adapter E100B1:

Verbindungsspezifisches DNS-Suffix: domain
Beschreibung. . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO Adapter
Physikalische Adresse . . . : 00-D8-B7-AF-15-20
DHCP aktiviert. . . . . . . : Ja
IP-Adresse. . . . . . . . . : 192.0.0.42
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 255.0.0.0
Standard-Gateway. . . . . . : 192.0.0.1

win2k unplugged

Windows 2000-IP-Konfiguration

Host-Name . . . . . . . . . : nt17
Primäres DNS-Suffix . . .:
Knotentyp . . . . . . . . . : Broadcastadapter
IP-Routing aktiviert. . . . : Nein
WINS-Proxy aktiviert. . . . : Nein

Ethernet-Adapter E100B1:

Medienstatus . . . . . . . . : Kabel nicht angeschlossen
Beschreibung. . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO Adapter

Physikalische Adresse . . . : 00-D8-B7-AF-15-20

so I see it the card does not give the same output when there is no network available. The question is how do I get the card to behave like there is one???

thanks machado

J believe the NIC id Physikalische Adresse . . . : 00-D8-B7-AF-15-20 can be read out any way.

But are you using a license for a stand-alone machine, or one where your app is trying to contact a license manager within the network ?

nope its a local license and a local flexlm! On a compareable machine but with nt4 it does work this way but not on win2k
