Thanks Richard, But I even can't run unlock.reg on my computer, cause I didn't inculde the regedit.exe to the RestrictRun List. all programs can not be run except the winword.exe and excel.exe. how can I disable the RestrictRun to 0 ? Thank you.

you didn't mention which OS version you are using.
For Win9x boot to MSDOS real mode and run Regedit from the command line.
For WinMe boot with your EBD diskette and run Regedit from the command line.
For Regedit.exe command line syntax, please consult the "Registry FAQ" in the "Registry Guide" at this site.

And if that doesn't help:
on Win98/Me: boot and hold the CTRL key pressed, from the boot menu roll back to a registry version before you added the RestrictedRun keys. Note that you may loose information added to the registry since that point in time.

Alternatively, you could also boot to DOS and rename regedit.exe -> winword.exe to be able to run it through Windows, then once fixed rename it back.

Add the two lines to your autoexec.bat file. reboot. This will remove the Explorer subkey which includes the restrictrun entry.

regedit /D "HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer"

regedit /D "HKey_Users\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Policies\Explorer"

Simon - J am not sure this will work. Microsofts rules say that each program must check its own Policies. It depends on the actual policy key set. So while Windows Explorer may be tricked to run Regedit cloaked as WinWord, Regedit itself may find, that it is prohibited.
(that is where all third party programs step in, that don't care about policies)

You might be right -- I'm sure I've done it that way in the past -- but maybe with an earlier OS version. Anyway I'll try it out again one day when I get a chance!

"...Plz delete user.dat files ..."

/images/w3t/icons/shocked.gif N E V E R DO SUCH A THING ! /images/w3t/icons/shocked.gif

You will be loosing all your user settings - anything that may be required to run applications in their last know state, and several applications will not run anymore and need to be re-installed !

And if you have a knowledgable Admin then the restricting settings are stored in System.dat and not the User.dat.
