How do I turn this feature off? It has not affected my ability to open or close programs from the desktop it just looks funny.

I think I was just experimenting with this the other day. If you head into the Control Panel, and double click on Mouse, the middle option says something about using single or double clicks. Make sure it's set to use double click to open an item. I think that might do it for ya, but if not, let us know.

In addition to the 'mouse' answer, you may have to go to display settings and disable Active Desktop and Windows Explorer, Folder Options, General tab and disable View as Web Page.

Take care with following valuename - it has a name corresponding to your problem, J haven't found further documentation (yet), so experiment (this key is for a desktop without underlined icon text):
------ regedit export -------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer]
"IconUnderline"=hex(0):03,00,00,00
-----------------------------------
J am interested in your findings - please let me now. - Thank you.
