I've tried everything!!! ARGHHHHH!!!!!

How do I stop NT (and 95 for that matter) creating a "My Briefcase" and "Outlook Express" icon in Start/Programs, on the Desktop on the Quick Launch Toolbar or any other annoying place everytime a user (new or existing) logs on ?

Many thanks for any idea's.

Taff.

Depending on how your profiles are set up, generally, you can remove these shortcuts from the "All Users" desktop folders and Quick Launch folders which will mean that they do not reappear in new users, provided that these icons are not present within the users profiles.
Hope it helps.

Haven't used Win95 in a while, so this is going from memory...but I think if you head into Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Windows Setup, you can find something about My Briefcase and possibly Outlook Express. Think you just may need to uncheck those items to see if that does it for ya. Similar in WinNT I beleive. Good luck.

Disabling the My Briefcase Deskto Icon in NT: the following will prevent My Briefcase from appearing for *new* profiles but it won't remove it from user profiles already existing on the box:
~run regedt32, go to hkey_current_user
~go to software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion\winlog on
~select Edit, Add Value
~enter RunSyncApp in the Value Name field & choose REG_DWORD in the Data Type field, click OK
~Exit regedt32
~rename syncapp.exe (%sysroot%\system32) to something else

May require a reboot to take effect -- sorry, I don't remember.

I don't have a slick way to get rid of Outlook Express short of uninstalling it.

Now that I just typed this all out I found the MS KB article about Briefcase removal: see KB Q219297 if interested.
