Hi!

Could some1 help me wit this? I have a problem playing certain avi files... some files work, others don't. I use the latest version of Windows Media Player (7.1) and I even downloaded the DivX codec and installed it. Yet some avi files don't work. When I try opening them, the messages WMP show are "Sending request for codec..." and then it shows "Waiting" and then the file starts playing without the video and only plays the audio track. Even though it says that it's sending a request for a particular codec, it doesn't seem to download any codec and immediately starts playing the audio track of the avi file without the video. What codec is it that I need for this problem and where can I get it from? And how? I have tried everything but nothing seems to have worked. If you know what I can/should do, please reply asap! Thank you very much!

Go to Start>Settings>ControlPanel>Multimedia and click the Devices tab.

Do you have all these codecs listed?

Video Compression Codecs
Cinepak Codec by Radius Inc.
Indeo (TM) R3.1
Indeo (TM) R3.2
Indeo I.263 Video Driver
Indeo® video 5.04
Intel I.263 Video Driver 2.55.016 [I420]
RLE
VDOnet VDOWave Video Codec
Video 1

Select each one and choose properties. Make sure "do not map through this device" is unchecked.

Then open your win.ini file and make sure you have these entries:

[mci extensions]
mid=Sequencer
rmi=Sequencer
wav=waveaudio
avi=AVIVideo
