Is there any way to remotely tell how much memory is installed in a workstation without using a remote control application like PCAnywhere or Timbuktu? I am supporting an NT4.0 network with many workstations that I would like to perform a hardware inventory on remotely. I would like to receive information from the inventory such as Machine Name, CPU Type and Speed, Bios Date, Installed Memory, etc.

You didn't mention what netware you are running, but regardless, MS OS's don't have the built-in feature. Dell and others have 'open-platform' software that can be downloaded free, but it is only good for machines having that architecture. Some Y2K products can interrogate remote systems but it is convoluted. In short, you will have to buy SOME software.

Thank you for your response. I am familiar with the functionality of SMS and other "All-in-one" TCO suites like Intel LANDesk Client Manager http://www.intel.com/network/products/landesk_cli_mgr.htm or Network Associates Zero Administration Client. These are wonderful, powerful utilities that have a wonderful, powerful price tag attached. I am looking for a simple utility (think "low to no cost") that can retrieve some hardware information across the network... thanks again for sharing.

Hi... I'm also looking for that king of information (through a Java Applet or any Web technology) : Sound - Card AND Amount of RAM...
Do you've got any results or answers ?
