I'M moving computers from windows 9x ME to 2000 PRO, and I need the folders favorites, history etc... to be in c:\windows as with win9x. I tried to change the registry (key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENT_VERSION/EXPLORER/SHELL_FOLDERS and USER_FOLDERS and it didn't work, beside this, I also want to have my profiles on the server. Any idea?

Thanks

You have to adjust to certain changes on Win2K !
Main reason is that you are here in a managed environment (even if you are the only user). Your Administrator account is the management account, and you should have a personal user account too without admin rights for the daily work. What happens in Win2K is that user-specific settings are protected from other users, including personal data storage in My Documents.

So all individual stuff you will now find per default at c:\Documents and Settings\<username>. See how Win2K has prepared this default and do not stuff user data back into the system folder. Best use a tool like TweakUI.cpl to manage the settings in the directory.

In the directory mentioned above you will find the subdirectories to move your current personal data like favourites, history ect to.

You also mention that you have a server. Then you have to define the base directory there rather than the place mentioned above, and have the logon point to the server.
J will leave it to someone else to give you the details concerning the server.

Hi,
Have you tried right-clicking My Documents and change the target folder?I did it and it works.
Good luck
