To whom it may concern,
Because of the need of our company we had to upgrade our server as hardware.
When I copied the data from the ex-server to new server I started living a
problem with the files whose name includes ASCII 141 character. Regional
Settings are Turkish on both two servers.
Ex-Server's Configuration is:
HP NetServer LH PRO Server
Raid 5, 128 MB Memory, 8GB HDD
NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 4
New Server's Configuration is:
IBM NetFinity 5500 M10 Server
Raid 5, 256 MB Memory, 36 GB HDD
NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 4
Having made productive my new server I couldn't access the files and folders
that have "ASCII 141 character (ý) from Windows 95 and 98 clients neither
from English version nor from Turkish version.
For example: In Excel If I give a file a name including that character I can
save the file but, I can not access the file after saving the file and I
receive the attached message.
The thing I can do now is renaming the file or folder from the server consol
but this can be done only from server consol and by the administrator user
and I have thousands of files and folders to rename.
What is strange is I did not have any problem like this with my ex-server. I
can not explain this to the users. This is not a nice situation telling them
"This is a known problem of Microsoft" (This was what was told me by
Microsoft Turkey). What I believe is this problem has a solution and I keep
trying to find this solution. I have asked this to my friend in this sector
and to Microsoft Turkey but I have not found the solution yet. Informing is
a new step to find the solution.
I am waiting for your comments and help.
Best Regards
