Request for help: I have laptop users traveling statewide. Running NT4-Wrkstn. DHCP. Need to create registry entry (or other viable alternative) that runs: "ipconfig /release" when user chooses ShutDown or Restart options from Logoff banner.
Any help to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

Did you get your answer?
i have same kinda problem but noone seems to know...
Problem is that logoff closes a program (wincron.exe) that should stay in work... (or should be executed again)
we use win95/98 as user machines and we have NT server

This is a common question--I'm surprised you didn't find it when you searched the site--you'll need 3rd party software that can intercept the command to logoff/shutdown and delay it to run user-specified programs.

Pablito: I did find an NT-specific program named "wrapup" Unfornately, I don't remember where I grabbed it from. Its been nearly one year. Send you email address to whitehare@ureach.com & I will forward you a copy of it. Though I installed it on my system, I never ended up using it. It seemed too convoluted.

Although this isn't the answer you're looking for, but as far as DHCP goes, are you able to just decrease the lease period to say < 4 hours? Then you wouldn't have to worry about the client releasing the address.
