View Full Version : Icons Go Weird

I use Windows98, and have done for a while now. Everything has been fine (apart from the usual bumps Windows is famous for) until recently.

Every now and again, my icons change to icons associated with another file type.

For example, I might come out of a program, or minimise it to do something else, and the shortcut icons on my Desktop which point to executable files will have changed to the icon associated with, say, WinZip. My Recycle Bin will have changed to, say, the icon associated with a graphics program.... and the weirdness goes on.

The thing is, there is no set pattern. The changes are completely random.

It's not just my Desktop that gets affected either, any folder I go into after the changes are affected too.

I'm almost completely stumped!

Any suggestions people?

Tweak UI 1.33 (http://www.winguides.com/external.php?url=http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp)
On the Repair tab select Rebuild icons when you find that Explorer is displaying the wrong icons for a program or shortcut.

Cheers for the advise billydee. I'll do that.

But, will that work as a permanant fix?
