Outlook Express and IE5

Help!
For some wacko reason, Outlook Express is no longer my default mail reader. Even if I select "Set as default" it will not keep! Also, IE is no longer my default browser, and it will not keep when choose to make it so. I looked through the registry and discovered that I do not even have a MAIL item listed (I found News). Anyonw have the registry entries needed for e-mail client and browser? Thanks!

reinstall. Hope that works. It probably meesed up during the install. I installed ie5 and outlook 5 6 times to get it working. geez...what's up with microsoft?

Office 97 buggers everything up - have you installed Outlook 98/98? They seem to delete the settings for the default mail client in such a way that they can't be recreated you have to do an install.

As the MS Knowledge base puts it: "Microsoft have confirmed this to be a problem"
