How to use keyboard shortcut to start appl.

Hi,
Can somebody tell me how I can use keyboard shortcut key to start any aplication/program? If i right click e.g IE desktop shortcut and go to properties then there is an option to enter shortcut key. However this does not work. It shows Ctrl+Alt+something i enter but this key does not work. I tried with many different keys.
Any idea??

Did you try with differnent applications ?
Maybe you choose a pre existing combinaison.

When you editing the shortcut 's properties, you need to activate the whole combinaison.
I mean, you need to press Ctrl AND E to have Ctrl+E as the shortcut.
If press Ctrl then releales it then E, it won't work.

Please don't mind if you already made it.
