I had this problem since from your last update from pc tools firewall, last year. And still did this, I am also new I just created a membership for this.
This is for anyone had this problem. At 7:27pm my computer froze as suspected, I presume it wouldn't happen because, from before the guy from the previous ssupdate helped me, that mention the problem I am probably having that I have all programs and files on drive D, while windows is on drive C.. So what I did was reformatted everything my stuff was saved on a external HD of course..
UPDATED and fixed, so it is more clear-----------------------
What I did was place a fresh image of win 7 and installed pc tools firewall, I didn't installed anything else including the updates...
While I was on my pc, it just went too it was going good, then unstable meaning clicking start, right click or click a program wouldn't start.
But while the task manager was at view. I didn't notice anything was taking a lot of resource. I used ctrl, alt, delete while I did that, everything was going so slow.. While it did came up, that gave me a error, I am sorry I don't remember the error but it wouldn't gave me those options to shut it down that way.
While at task manager I right click and end the process of the firefox for example.. That is when the pc just froze.
Also you couldn't reboot using the keys either.
When it become tuesday it froze but sometimes another day. I have no malware or anything from the pc.. While that was a fresh image copy of win 7, I even did the same thing while I just installed win 7 too.
(BACK UP AND RESTORE) I had no problems with that one.
(RECOVERY) while I click that.. Then option system restore, that would make the recovery window hang.. I waited for 3 hours and still done it, so I end the process while I done that, it would freeze the pc.
(SYSTEM PROTECTION)
Just going there wouldn't hang anything until I click create or go too configure then click delete.
Would just hang until, I let it sit there for 5 hours still did it. Clicked the end process that made the pc freeze.
While I played around using safe mode, and clicked back up and restore that everything was normal.
UPDATED and fixed, so it is more clear-----------------------
When I looked at the event it shows this something about my processor firmware and other stuff, but that was the same of everyday.. Before I had the personal firewall..
All programs and files including windows is on drive C.
Still happen with the pc tools firewall
(Services) the only thing was disabled from anything remotely
(Stuff is running in the background) Windows update was disabled, task scheduler nothing running in the background, but active task I left alone, although I disabled google update...
(Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings)
place everything off home or work and public, I didn't touch password protected, use 128, allow windows to manage.
(Windows Firewall) Advance settings
"Domain Profile" Windows firewall is off
"Private profile is active, Public Profile"
Windows firewall is on, Outbound connections that do not match a rule are allowed
(Action center)
"Network firewall" PC Tools Firewall Plus: 6.0.0.88
"Windows Update" currently not monitored <--- meaning I turn off the update
"Virus protection" Avast! antivirus Avast: 5.0
"Spyware and unwanted software protection" Avast!
"Network access protection" off
(Programs running in the background) pc tools threatfire, avast!, APC Powerchute Personal Edition, pc tools firewall plus
So I know I don't have malware, as I did mention I tried this once before on a fresh image of win7, and I also prove it doesn't matter, when I had pc tools firewall plus running from Drive D and windows Drive C it still happen. So I was right you still can have a problem..
Edit,
This has happen from the previous versions of the firewall, and avast..
I would like to let you know it isn't avast, as I checked with people from the avast site. There are no conflicts.
I have updated a few.
