Hi!
I assambled a PC (just for fun) and have the following problem. I have a sound card (ESS Technologies, ess1688) and I want to connect a CD-ROM drive via this card (the only position available).
I did so but the PC didn't detect the drive. What EXACTLY do I have to do to make it work? There is a problem somewhere but it all seems easy - data cable, power.
Any help?
Thanks,
Michael

You have the IDE cable plugged into your CD-ROM, right? If memory serves me correctly, that little cable that goes from the CD-ROM to the sound card is just for Analog playback. It is optional and is typically used to play music CD's via buttons on the CD-ROM (if you have them) or play music CD's through Windows CD player. Either way, you need to have the IDE cable plugged in.

Don't forget the power cable!
