I was reading in the forum where someone was complaining that Thunderbird email client task bar was not showing up. I am having the same issue but with Outlook. On 10 March 2010, I did a chat session which did not resolve the issue. I was requested by the tech person to submit a file for evaluation by "developers" which I did. To date I have received NO FEEDBACK. The funny thing is, the PCTools email client task bar worked for a long time in Outlook but mysteriously disappeared. I have tried reinstalling a number of times to no avail. If someone has an idea, I'd love to have it because the spam task bar was great while it worked. Any assistance would be appreciared.

Hi,

What version of Thunderbird do you have?

The Anti-Spam Toolbar is for Thunderbird 2.0, Thunderbird 3 (Beta 2). Just not for the final release of Thunderbird 3 due to major code changes. However, the next release of PCTIS will resolve this problem.

A new version of PCTIS (v7.0.0.543) was released 2 days ago and the toolbar should now be available for Thunderbird version 3:

Read again. I'm not using Thunderbird. I use Outlook 2003. Today, I downloaded and installed PCTIS 2010 Ver 543. The task bar still not showing in Outlook. I don't what else to do. I hoped the new version would correct but no dice

Sorry.
Could you try the following:

Go to Start-> PCTIS-> Email client toolbar-> Run
Install MS Outlook Email Client Toolbar (If you see that the toolbar is already installed, try uninstalling the toolbar first and then reinstalling)
Restart Outlook-> See if you get the toolbar.

If this does not work, there may be some sort of a bug and we'll need to get some more info.

Anthony, I performed the actions you suggested in your last post. The problem persists. I even reinstalled MS Outlook think that may help but it did not. PCTIS email client toolbar uninstall/insatllation seems to run OK but when Outlook restarts, still no email client tool bar. What additional info is needed?

Hi mcbob,

Try this - In Outlook check the following
Select Tools>Trust Center from the main menu

Then select the Add-ins on the left hand side of the trust center pane

In the drop down list box at the bottom of the screen select Exchange Client Extensions

and click 'Go'

Check that the PCToolsAntiSpamSToolbar option exists and if it is unchecked then check it - this should fix the problem. You may need to restart outlook.

If it doesn't exist then check if C:\Program Files\PC Tools Internet Security\SpamMonitor\Toolbars\SMOutlookToolbar.dll exists.

NOTE: May not be C: drive - use whichever drive PCTIS was installed to.

Also check that the following registry keys exist
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Cli ent\Extensions]
"PCToolsAntiSpamSToolbar"="4.0;C:\\Program Files\\PC Tools Internet Security\\SpamMonitor\\Toolbars\\SMOutlookToolbar. dll;1"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Cli ent\Extensions]
"Outlook Setup Extension"="4.0;Outxxx.dll;7;000000000000000;0000000000;OutXXX"

If they don't then add them
Again replace C:\ with the drive letter determined previously

Reboot and see if this makes a difference.

If not let us know and we can investigate further

Good Luck

Thanx Chendry. i had just about given up on ever getting this problem resolved so I haven't logged on in some time. I appreciate your reply and have noticed that others are having the same kind of issues with Outlook, Outlook Exp and Thunderbird. I tried to check the items listed in your reply, Some I found others not. What version of Outlook were you referencing? I am using Outlook 2003 and it has no "trust center" under the tools drop down. Also, how do I look into registry keys? On my PC I only run PCTIS and Desktop Maestro, both PC Tools products.

I have uninstalled PCTIS many times trying to fix this problem. I have uninstalled spam task bar and reinstalled it many times to no avail so i just gave up. I'm willing to try most anything because while the task bar worked I thought it was an excellent tool.

let me know. Mcbob

PS my session with tech support was a joke so i turned to the forum for help

Hi Mcbob,

The description I posted was for Outlook 2007.

For Outlook 2003 do this instead.

Select Tools>Options
Select the Advanced Options Tab
Select Addin Manager

Check that the PCToolsAntiSpamSToolbar option exists and if it is unchecked then check it - this should fix the problem. You may need to restart outlook.

AChen will post some instructions on how to view and edit the registry shortly

Following CHendry's post:

Start > run > type regedit

Look for the Named registry keys below. If it does not exist then create them. You can create by going to Edit > New > String Value in each registry location:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Cli ent\Extensions]

Name: PCToolsAntiSpamSToolbar
Value data: 4.0;C:\Program Files\PC Tools Internet Security\SpamMonitor\Toolbars\SMOutlookToolbar.dll ;1

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Cli ent\Extensions]

Name: Outlook Setup Extension
Value data:4.0;Outxxx.dll;7;000000000000000;00000 00000;OutXXX

(Make sure the is no spaces, example Clie nt in the above)

Achen and Chendry. Thanks to you both. I have verified that the toolbar option is checked in advanced options in Outlook and that the registry entries also exist. The toolbar still won't display however. According to the entry in >Start>Programs>PC Tools Internet Security>Email Client Toolbar, the Toolbar is installed. Hence, the verification of the entries you guys suggested. But the Spam Tool Bar just won't appear in my email client even though everything indicates it should. What should we do next? You guys are the experts but I really want to work with you to fix this issue.

1. Determine the Install Location of PCTIS
2. Check the View Toolbars option in Outlook to:
A) See if the toolbar is loaded there
B) See if it is ticked to be on

3. Export the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/PCTools/Spam Monitor/4.0/
4. Export the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Cli ent\Extensions

5.
a. Set the DWORD value DebugOutput to 0 in the Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/PCTools/Spam Monitor/4.0
b. Restart Outlook
c. Collect the file %TEMP%/SMDebugLog_outlook.exe.txt debug file
d. Then delete the DebugOutput registry key setting and restart outlook.

And attach the file to this thread.

There is also an extend.dat file which caches the extensions.
It can be found here on WinXP

%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat

Or here on Vista/Win 7

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook\ex tend.dat
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\exte nd.dat

Delete the extend.dat with Outlook closed. Then install the Outlook Email client toolbar. Then reopen Outlook. The extend.dat file should be rebuilt with the PCTools email toolbar

•Click the “Disabled Items” button in the lower right-hand corner
•Select the add-in from the list and click “Enable”
•Restart Outlook

Outlook 2000/XP

•Click Help
•Click "About Microsoft Office Outlook":
•The Microsoft Outlook About window will open:
•Click on "Disabled Items..." select the toolbar and click "Enable" button.

Restart Outlook in order to apply the changes
