View Full Version : Disabling "renaming" function in Win 9x

Does anyone know of any registry hacks or tweaks to disable the renaming function of Win 9x?

In POLEDIT, there is the ability to run programs that only you designate. But if some smart person figures out those filenames in that list, they could download whatever they want, rename that file to one of the sanctioned programs on that list, and install.

J have never seen such a feature for Windows Explorer, anyhow you would want a selective facility that protects exes and dlls, but allows users to correct wrong file names stored from within user apps.

If you really need to use Win9x, you would have to check on third party software, for alternate shells that give you the security needs. One link J picked up from another thread is:
