How well integrated is SD+AV? If both are installed, to they act as a single, integrated malware protection solution or do they act as two independent programs each with their own settings, messages, scanning and update schdule?

I'm trying to avoid having to run two different scans - one searching for "spyware" and another searching for "virus". As far as I'm concerned they are all the same - they are all malicious and/or unwanted, uninvited programs.

The same question could be applied to ThreatFire - it has its own scan, which presumably looks for different(?) things than SD.

Well integrated. It is only one install, acting as one program, one setting, message, scan and update.

SD+AV has Threatfire built-in, also seamless.

Thansk haapy - that's what I was hoping would be the case. I tried SD & AV a few years ago when the AV component was still fairly new and they weren't very well integrated at the time. Based one some things I've read recently PCTools is starting to look more attractive than it has for some time.

Question: if I already have the free ThreatFire installed, shoul I uninstall it first?

Yes. You can only have one or the other. My recommendation is to remove TF prior to installing SDA.:)

If you have ThreatFire installed, you can still install SD, but Behavior Guard will be disabled within SD. It just depends if you want TF or Behavior Guard (These are the same, but TF offers more options and settings compared with Behavior Guard). You can disable Behavior Guard in SD by doing this in MyAccount (http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48180) if you decide to take this option.
