OS - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
SDWA - 7.0.0.508
Is anyone having trouble installing Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2 / Steam? I get a windows installer error - "the system administrator has set privileges to prevent this installation"
I have FULL administrator privileges and I even tried running the setup file from the DVD as administrator - as well as all the "solutions" activision lists on their site as "solutions" - NONE WORK.
Note that I even tried disabling SWDA Intelliguard while I installed - still no joy.
I'm wondering if maybe there is something else in SWDA that is preventing the system administrator privileges? Very odd since I can install other games that don't use Steam as well as every other application I've tried. It seems like it's bombing on the SteamInstall_English file located in teh \Resources folder on the DVD but can't be sure. There is no way (that I've found) to set install options on that file to "run as administrator"
Activision has been absolutely no help - I even told them I'd never buy another Activision/InfinityWard game after potenially flushing $60 down the drain on this one (can't return after opened) - and even though I've purchased dozens of their games over the years. Their reply, "oh well, it must be your system" (even though I suggested they Google CODMW2 Windows 7 64 Bit - lol! NOT!!!)
Anyhow, last hope - thought maybe someone else here had a similar experience with CODMW2/Steam :mad::mad::mad:

Could you try uninstalling SD-> Reboot and see if the problem exist.
If there is no problems, try reinstalling SD and see if the problem comes back.
There is a known issue with the ThreatFire service (from BGH and TF) conflicting with Steam (The TF team are currently working on a solution), but this looks like a different problem. Btw, do you have BGH enabled?

1 - BGH is installed
2 - given all the problems I had getting SWDA to work with the Windows 7 install (recall?) I really don't want to try unistal, reinstall. Could I just do a selcetive boot and make sure non of the SWDA services are started on boot? Would that work the same as uninstalling - ie, do a clean boot

FYI, I in fact did a clean boot with the only services running being Microsoft (disabled all else from msconfig.exe). That did not solve the COD MW2 install issue either.
Very odd that this is the only app/etc that I've tried to install that I received a "system admin privileges prevent installation" error.

im having a similar problem with my computer although i got my modern warfare 2 and steam installed without a problem, when i come to reboot my computer steam wont start up automatically and the game wont start up without exiting spyware doctor with antivirus , ive tried allowing it in the behaviour guard but still no works. but starngely enough i dont even get a pop up saying that its been stopped or anything , but as soon as i exit spyware doctor it works ! :(

Well, you're several steps ahead of me. I can't even get it to install - I continue to get "system administrator privileges prevent installation" - despite all the following -
full admin, UAC never notify, even tried using the built-in admin account - can't install. I'm at a loss - haven't ahd any issue installing any other applications. since it's home premium version, gpedit.msc isn't available so can't even check to be sure local users policies haven't been fiddled with somehow, though I highly doubt it.
the latest "solution" from Activision support, well basically you are SOL and we have your $60 - 1. try installing to the default drive (system drive) [nope, not going to happen since I have never in the past nor now installed games to system drive] - 2. well, maybe you should do a complete new install of Windows 7 [uh, also not going to happen since I have absolutely no issues with anything else on the PC; hmm, sure it must be the OS since 99.999% of everything installed or have tried to install works fine, but our COD MW2 doesn't]
I'm 99.999% sure I'll never purchase another Activision/InfinityWard game  :(

JRBauer, I'm not sure how else to resolve this issue if Activision are unable to resolve this themselves :(
Kelvados, did you make sure to disable Behavior Guard within your subscription. Disabling just BGH in IntelliGuard will not resolve the issue as the TF service is still running.

I am very reluctant to uninstall SWD unless you think there is a very high probability that it is generating the "system administrator has set privileges to prevent installation" error message.
Just seems very odd that everything else installs/operates properly but this one game.
If I did a system restore point before I uninstalled SWD, could I simply do a restore and it would bring back SWD as wel?l (I would think so, but your software so you should know for sure).

Have you tried right-clicking on the setup file on the dvd and clicking "Run as Administrator"? I know you are logged in as an administrator with UAC set to never prompt but sometimes you still need to use the right-click option.
If that doesn't work there is the possibility that somehow you have windows installer disabled by a registry hack (either accidental or deliberate) since you couldn't have set a local policy via the editor in Home Premium. If your comfortable about checking the registry then you can take a look at HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer and checking if DisableMSI or MSIDisable is there with the value of 1. Changing the value to 0 if there or deleting the key should fix the problem.
Just remember that registry editing can be dangerous so I would recomend only changing the value directly as a last resort. It won't hurt to look though :)

yes, i had tried that and as for the registry keys had already checked them as well - they don't exist
I even tried using the builtin administrator account to install - nope
