I got infected by the Antivirus System Pro and discovered that SpyDoctor could take care of it. I managed to download SpyDoctor but could never get it to run because of all the popups that continued. The SpyDoctor box with start scan and other options would not run, it just sat there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, JimTuck

Well Jim this is the SPYWARE DOCTOR forum. If you downloaded Spy Doctor you just doubled your problems as Spy Doctor is another one of those bogus apps. You'll have to pay for Spyware Doctor or you can get the starter version or get Malwarebytes free version. In order to get the free version of Spyware Doctor you've got to get the google pack. If it was me I'd download Malwarebytes, do the update, run a full scan. When clean I'd buy Spyware Doctor to keep you protected in the future.

Note: When you have finished downloading Malwarebytes right click on the file and change the name to something else but make sure to keep the .exe at the end. They reccommend this as some spyware will actually block the installation. This is a little trick to prevent that.
Good luck

Hi Jimtuck,

It sounds like the infection may be blocking Spyware Doctor from installing. There are many types of infections out there that block security apps from installing. What you should do in this scenario is try going into safemode with networking to install Spyware Doctor. I have provided instructions below:

1. Select Start (Windows Button)

Windows 7\Vista: Click on the arrow next to the Shutdown button and select restart.
Windows XP: Select Shutdown and select Restart.

2. When the computer starts back up, begin immediately by pressing the F8 key repeatedly until the Windows Startup menu appears with various options **
3. By using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard, select 'Safe Mode with Networking' and not any other modes.
4. Login to your account (if asked)
5. Wait and eventually Windows will start in Safe Mode
6. Go to www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/ and download SD.
7. Register (if you have not registered before) and run a Smart Update
8. Perform a Full Scan
9. And clean out the infections found.

Note* IntelliGuard and Immunizer cannot be activated in Safe Mode.

Please remember to reboot your computer after you completed these instructions.

Note: If you have any difficult getting the Windows Startup menu to appear at step 2, try the following to get into Safe Mode:

** Try holding down the left shift key instead of pressing the F8 key while booting up it. Begin immediately pressing the F5 key, about once a second, until the message 'Windows is bypassing your startup files' appears.
