Hello,

My nephew was having trouble using his laptop which appeared to be down to Antispyware 2009. On googling this I downloaded and installed Spyware Doctor to help remove it.

Now after logging into to XP start screen, a few seconds later the start bar changes to the old NT style and then the PC restarts.

Any ideas?

Pete

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode and trying to run another scan with SD to ensure you elimated the problem? To do this, upon machine start up before Windows loads, press F8 about 5 times and you will be sent to another screen. Then select safe mode, run SD, and see if you got everything. If it still restarts it may be an OS or registry issue. However, please try this first. NOTE: THIS IS NOT FOR NOVICE USERS, DO AT YOUR OWN RISK. Hopefully this helps.

Gee Happy,
Are you saying that MB can remove this and SD can't? That's encouraging!

MBAB is very good.

I never said that. I just did the research and provided the member a solution.

Too many times people buy good malware protection, like SDA, way after the fact.

On a really infested machine it may take several products and several hours to get rid of the malware.

Prevention is always better than the cure.

Live and learn.

That's why I installed NIS 2010. Nothing found by it or SD or MBAB or
a-squared, or SAS, or PREVX or you name it since. All de-installed bar MBAB for occasional double check.

I tried booting safe-mode, but that results in blue screen!

Here is another solution.

It is a nasty one.

If this does not work, google antispyware 2009 removal for more options.

Happy,
OK misunderstood.
I also use MB, Spybot as well to double check. Of course SD , Avast, PCTFW+ are my main real time protection along with browser defender and the tea Timer from Spybot. Nothing gets through.
One other piece of advice. Do not download ANYTHING unless it comes from a company that you KNOW. MajorGeeks.com is a good source for stuff you may need. It's all been thoroughly tested and is safe. I've never been bitten by anything from them. If they don't have it you don't need it.

PS MajorGeeks.com has an excellent team that will help you remove the badest of malware.
