Hi
I am currently using Windows XP SP3 on an Intel 915 GAV motherboard with 2 GB RAM. I would like to know if installing Windows 7 will cause any problems. Has anyone tried this? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi!
You have very good hardware, so you will not have any problems with this perspective. It is difficult to assess whether you have a problem or not. I see that you are concerned about compatibility issues. Could you specify? In any event, I encourage you to use the program Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, to check for possible problems. And on the incompatibility with your software, there is a special option called "Windows Compatibility Troubleshooter".

I would suggest you increase your ram memory to at least 4g instead of the 2g you have. or you will be running slugish when you try to run more than one app.

I have two GB ram and Windows 7 is supposed to run more smoothly than Windows Vista, with greater effientcy in the utilization of RAM and I plan to upgrade this PC soon. However, the more RAM the better and your hardware does look good.

Check your video board for compatibility.

I am worried about the video compatibility. I don't have a video card. Whatever there is it is the on-board garphics of the 915GAV mobo. Also there are no updates available for the intel inf on Intel's site for this board for Windows 7.

Check with Microsoft and the compatibility checks,

I agree with haapy, download, install, and run the Upgrade Advisor located on the link haapy posted.

I have done that and it should be okay. Only thing is that my Creative Soundblaster Live! Value is not compatible. So I will switch to the on-board sound AC '97 or something.
Thanks

minimun ram requirements are: 1gig 32 bit 2gig 64 bit. you should be ok on 32 bit "but if you are planing on installing 64 bit and run more than 1 app intensive at a time you will be slugish. If this is the case it is highly recommened that you upgrade your ram first if not only install the 32 bit win 7..

Installed. Everything went smoothly. Running fine. Better speed than XP. Better look(May be because it's a new feeling!). There are some screen-savers that won't run because of the on-board video. But that's a very very minor thing.

Okay. I need some help on this. I have a Intel D915GAV montherboard with 4 PCI slots, 2 PCI Express x1 slot and one PCI Express x16(whatever that means) slot. If I wish to put in a video card to enhance the graphics - aero look and DirectX 10 etc. - which card would fit the board? Suggestions...
