I am having a lot of trouble getting a decent starup.I can get a startup using Dignostic tools ,but only just and I can eventually access the internet.

I have a saved bootlog file ,a record of my startup.I have read it ,but I dont know what I am looking for .for example:-

[00154925] Loading Vxd = VMM
[00154924] LoadSuccess = VMM
[00154924] Loading Vxd = C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE
[00154924] LoadSuccess = C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE
[00154925] Loading Vxd = vnetsup.vxd
[00154924] LoadSuccess = vnetsup.vxd
[00154924] Loading Vxd = ndis.vxd

this is a snip of it ,what are the bracket [] numbers.
whats Vxd ?
and how can I use the bootlog file to help me?

(a) bracketed number: J think this was the time stamp (last two pos = hundreds of a second).
(b) a Vxd is a virtual device driver
(3) use of bootlog: sometimes you can see that an item was not loaded, or if a startup with bootlog stalls and you need to reboot, look for bootlog.bak or bootlog.prv (or similiar suffix), then check the last entry and compare with a know good bootlog. That may give you an indication, at which software item a startup problem occurs.

If you do not already know this...
After hitting the power button, get to the Start menu and select Bootlog.

Go to www.surecool.com
On their downloads page you will find Bootlog Analyzer. You can set this to show delays. This will give you a good indication of what is stalling your startup.
