As far as I know, your Network Control Panel needs to have Client for Microsoft Networks installed. Head into Start > Settings > Control Panel. From here, double click on Network. One of the first things at the top of the list should be the network client. It should either say Client for Microsoft Networks, or Microsoft Family Logon. If CFMSN is not there, choose add, client, add again. From here, choose Microsoft on the left, and CFMSN on the right. Choose okay to add that to your list. Choose ok and reboot the computer. Should be good to go from here.

Thank you for your response. the settings in the network config are ok. The problem is in the dial-up network ... narmaly the connection window shows the user name and the password and a field "save password". this field is
grey and no way to enable save password. this happens only on notebooks (I have never seen this on an Office Computer)

Resetting your passwords almost never fails.

1. Go to C:\Windows
Delete all .pwl files

2. Open system.ini
Delete all lines under
[Password Lists]

3. Go to ControlPanel>Network
Choose Windows Logon as Primary Login

Reboot

You should now get the login box one last time. Type your name and password, or just click OK for no password.

Now right-click on InternetExplorer on the desktop, choose properties, click the Connections tab, highlight your dial-up connection and choose the Settings button. Input your dial-up password here.

Or try this information from Microsoft. In Internet Explorer, choose Help>Online Support, click the Searchable Knowledge Base, choose Specify an artice ID number and enter the following numbers:

Dial-Up Networking Password Is Not Saved: Q148925
Save Password Check Box Is Unavailable: Q137361

If all else fails, try re-creating the Dial-Up Networking connection.

Reverse following description and test, no guarantee that it helps:

Disable the Save Password option
The Dial-Up Networking (DUN) program allows you to save a user name and password for each of your dial-up connection. While this is convenient, it's very insecure, especially when most dial-up networking is done using laptops, which are easily stolen.
To prevent users from saving passwords, add the REG_DWORD value DisableSavePassword value to the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RasMan\Parameters
key and set it to 1. Once this is done, DUN will no longer display the Save Password checkbox, as shown in Figure B, and it will forget all the passwords it had been told to remember.
