start menu- icon vertical spacing

Is there a way to increase the spacing between items in the start menu and also the explorer window in Windows 98? I know in windows 95 there was more vertical space and they weren't so bunched together.

You may want to have a larger font (one point more may already be enough).
Go to ControlPanel > Display applet, choose the Appearance tab, from the Item dropdown look for Menu, then use the font setting to adjust.
