Hi, I have a PIII IBM clone PC, 433MHz processor, 192MB memory; Windows Millennium Me O/S. Internet Browser: IE5.5 and Netscape 4.6
-------------------------------------------
I have just upgraded my version of MS Office to 2000, and ever since I get an error message whenever I try to open Internet/Windows Explorer. The error message is: "iexplore.exe has caused an error in KERNEL32.dll" and suggests that I shut down my PC. This I do every time. I don't have any problems accessing the internet (as long as I use Netscape Communicator), or sending e-Mail (as long as I don't use Outlook 2000 and use instead Netscape Communicator). Would you advise what I should do? I have tried reloading Windows Me using the CD-ROM, but the same error keeps coming up. Thanks in advance for your kind assistance. Best regards, Luigi.

Wow, thats a rough one. Its an Internet Explorer error in the core of Windows. I would first suggest going into the control panel (Start > Settings > Control Panel) and going into Add/Remove Programs. This will first display a list of programs and software installed on the computer. Scroll down and find Microsoft Internet Explorer, it should say something about "and Internet Tools" along with it. You wanna double click that, choose the option to repair Internet Explorer, and follow the directions from there. Thats the easiest thing to try right off the bat. Give it a shot, see what happens.

Sounds a bit nasty, when you cannot start IE, cause usually IE is required to download updates.
J believe that the Office upgrade has overwritten more current IE stuff.
If possible, get hand of a IE5.5 update / upgrade on cdrom (the network file is rather large), then re-install from there (reason: J don't believe you will be able to uninstall IE with a WinME, if you get a re-install option from the "Add/Remove Programs" applet you may try that first).
PM. J am not a WinME expert in this special case.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my plea for help - unfortunately, I did try to uninstall IE5.5 when I could still access My Computer Add/Remove Programs, and tried to repair it. Now, Windows Explorer comes up with the same error message, and I can't even do that. Do you think it might be wise to get a copy of the KERNEL32.dll file from a friend who also has MS Windows Me, then copy to correct folder in DOS? Thanks again, Luigi.

No - the problem lies somewhere in one of the IE program sections, that call for a service in KERNEL32, but supplies an invalid parameter.

Richard,

Thank you very much for your kind follow-up. I shall get hold of IE5.5 and re-install - if I can!

Very often I encounter the the same problem. While working in internet this 'page fault in kernell32.dll' appears.I had to restart and then work. this takes away time. During download this becomes nightmare.
