Today, I finally broke down and installed version 7 of SD. Is there still a need to have Browser Defender? I thought I had read somewhere about that, but forgot what it said. That was a while ago, I'm old, and have slept since then. ;) Thanks in advance!

Browser Defender comes wrapped up in v7.

You only need the stand alone version if you use FireFox.

If you go to add/remove software, you will see it.

I recommend using it as it is one more layer of defense.

Okay, so I reinstalled Browser Defender, but it is attaching to IE8, not Firefox. I only rarely use IE8 anymore, I mostly use Firefox. Any suggestions?

Yes. Go here to get the FF version.

any sense of the speed with firefox.
I put it up a while back but then took it off. One of my major sites is a local newspaper that must take ads from everyone under the sun, and browser defender seemed to scan them all.

thanks

I had that issue with my local newspaper, owned by Freedom Communications who owns about 100 other papers.

Pop ups that wouldn't quit and other useless info.

I found out the ad producer was casalemedia.com and put casalemedia.com in my IE restricted site list and no more problems. FF must have setting for that too.

thanks makes sense, but how do I figure out the sites?

An idea: us ccleaner than access the newspaper and then see what has been added to cclearner cookie thing?

does that makes sense?

Firefox has an add-on called Adblock Plus that I use. It seems to do well. My only overall gripe about Firefox is that it goofs up some websites that IE8 doesn't. Still, I trust it more. So far. So good. *knocks wood*

Another question I'm throwing out there is this:

When I had Browser Defender reinstalled [the one that attached to IE8], I kept getting error messages when SD was booting [exception errors regarding memory or something]. After it finished loading, the pop up warnings went away. Whenever I did an uninstall on BD, the error message pop ups have stopped.

Is this supposed to happen? I had begun to wonder if I would have to uninstall SD and reinstall it or go back to the older version.

I would recommend uninstalling SD and Browser Defender (IE) and starting clean with a fresh install of v7.
