I can edit the Start button text by changing the thing in the Explorer file, but I have recently acquired Windows Me, and I am wondering how to replace the Explorer.exe file when I can't exit Windows. I heard I have to make a boot disk... I dunno what that means.
Also, is there a way to change the Start button's Windows graphic?

"...I heard I have to make a boot disk... I dunno what that means..."
That is a specially prepared diskette, that contains a minimal subset of the an operating system.
In Microsofts case it is a version based on MSDOS. If you start your computer with the diskette in the drive, it will start up from there rather than using your WinME from the harddisk.
Note: the computer will only boot from the diskette if this has not been disabled in CMOS setup.
The first time you used your computer, you probably were asked if you wanted to prepare an "ERD" diskette. This is nothing else than a boot diskette with some special data added to it.
If you have not prepared the Emergency Recovery Diskette yet, do it now, cause if you harm your system you may have to re-install WinME.
"...I am wondering how to replace the Explorer.exe file ..."
in this case you would have to set up two entries in the HKLM RunOnce key:
rename explorer.exe to explorer.old
rename explorer.new explorer.exe
There is a chance, that WinME file protection will notice this change and force the original version back into place.

Thanx Richard. WinMe didn't force the original back :-) and now I have a boot diskette and a new Start Button.
Thanx again.

U 've managed to customise the start button text. Could u help me doing the same. I use Windows NT and I log in as administrator. I 'm sure it will involve Registry Edit.
