Hi, I've just installed RM 9.0.0.114 and found that it's created 2 huge files:
cputime xml (20gb)
logfile.etl (11gb)
Is this right? Is there any way I can reduce the size of these files as they're taking up valuable space on my HD?!
Any/all help gratefully received!
Thanks.

Hi Sidollie,
This is definitely not right and I have never seen this problem before.
Where are the 2 files located? Are they in the Registry Mechanic folder?
Have you tried uninstalling RM? to see if it removes the files? because RM should not be creating these files...

We've been looking into this more and the file Logfile.etl appears to be a Windows Performance monitor log ->http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1214630378.
And from looking at the above, cputime.xml, is probably a similar issue. Both files should be located in C:\.
It may help to check the performance console to see if anything is being logged/files generated (Start-> Run-> perfmon.msc or Start-> Control Panel -> Admin Tools-> Performance).
It should then display the logs available, and the files being created (e.g. mine currently shows just the counter logs dropped to C:\Perflogs\System etc...
You should be able to stop/delete the logs through performance too.

Anthony, thanks for the feedback. I retarted my PC a couple of times and the cputime file changed to (only) 500mb. I deinstalled RM and haven't seen a problem since! I know there have been some gremlins in my Vista setup but they seem to have disappeared now.
The 2 files were in c:\program files\common files\pc tools\s monitor which is why I thought they were related to RM, not just Vista.
It's a mystery but thanks for the reply!
Andy.

I have never run performance monitor. It is in "Program Files (x86)Common Files\PC Tools\sMonitor". It takes up all my disk and I cannot do anything, nor can I delete this, even as administrator. HELP

Have you tried deleting these files? in the sMonitor folder? try deleting the individual log files themselves, IE, logfile.etl or whatever.

SMonitor creates 2 huge files in ...\Program Files\Common Files\PC Tools\sMonitor - logfile.etl and memory.dmp. Looks like the programmer(s) did a lousy job checking on restricting file sizes. I would definitely remove/uninstall this sMonitor program until PC Tools fixes it.
If you're out of disk space, then you need to run Windows' Task Manager and stop the smonitor (or SSDMonitor) process before you can delete these files.
If this doesn't work, you'd need to reboot, go into registry editor and delete SSDMonitor from the Local machine\...\startup\run list.

I had this problem. In fact this files were getting progressively bigger very rapidly over time (like fill my HDD in 2 hours). Completely removing and reinstalling version 9 solved the issue.
I upgraded from 8 to 9 on that PC and got that bug. Fresh installs of 9 on two other computers have not had this issue. I'm wondering if it is related to upgrading from one version to the next.

When this problem occurs, what other software is running at the time? security software and anything else that may be running in the background etc...

The latest version of RM which we released should not be causing this problem. Please refer to my above post.
