Hi, does anyone know how to remove a user profile from windows ME that was accidently created on a windows 98 startup 1 yr ago and carried over on the update. It now contains data and IE settings that I do not want to loose by just simply deleting it. Any help would be appreciated. tks

if you only want to save the settings while under that profile got to the registry and copy the whole HKey CUrrnet user hive and save it to a REG file on the Desktop. Then delete the file. Log in to the user you want the data to be on and double click on the file and click ok to merge the settings in.

Please note that i have never done this. It will rewritre all the current settings for the user you are. I don't know if any problems could result for this so i suggest you do a bakcup of the HD before you attempt it

Good Luck.

PS if you want to do a selective transfer you might as well do it manually in the new profile because it is too hard to look up the stuff

I don't know about merging all of it cause in windows 98SE if I was to merge the stuff I would be linked to that profile... And If I removed that profile the links would be gone and when you open that profile the links would be recreated..... making that profile you didn't want in the first place... I have moved the user.dat to another profile that is how I know it get all messhes Up .... I was playing.... In the registry for example is the my documents folder that each person has... so if you change the link it will not connect to the proper my doc folder.... if you want to just save like my favorites just copy them from one user profile to the other one ( if this can be done in win me).....

I know I can do this on win98 so don't do any merging.... you will mess with the links and it will end up like when you parents moved and didn't tell ya!!

Some things can be merged and somethings can't cause they are user profile depended...

So we need a windows me person to answer if you can move like the fav......

Thanks
Mac!!!

This Is just my opinion
So if it stinks wait for another one
