I have been advised to type this in:-
Please try the following fix for your problem.
Go to a dos prompt and type in the following.
C:\>
C:\DRIVERS>
CD\DRIVERS <Enter>
TATTOO /CREATEDMIFROMHS <Enter>
ctrl,alt,del
does anyone know what it is meant to do?

all depends what your original question was... (not found at this site!)
your quote:
(1) C:\>
(2) C:\DRIVERS>
(3) CD\DRIVERS <Enter>
(4) TATTOO /CREATEDMIFROMHS <Enter>
(5) ctrl,alt,del
interpretation:
so line (1) is not to be typed in, it is the prompt at DOS level,
line (2) is also a prompt at DOS level, but after the command of line (3) typed and executed (change directory) - have you mixed up the lines?
line (4) would execute an EXE or COM or BAT file, depending what is in this DRIVERS directory. It would use the supplied /xxx string as a parameter.
after which you should boot as instructed by line (5)
Comment / recommendation:
If you either do not have (a) the mentioned directory on your harddisk C:, nor (b) find TATTOO in that directory, nor (c) do not know what this programs functionality is, forget the advise you received.
At worst you would be tricked into starting a virus infection. Did you run your virus scan software recently ?
