We just purchased the latest version of File Recover software. We used it to look for deleted video files and found many (hundreds) in a number of formats including avi, wmv, mpeg, quicktime, etc. After recovering all of the files to an external hard drive, we tried to play only the larger files (greater than 1MB) for avi, wmv and mpeg. Most (maybe 60-70%) of the wmv recovered files played well. Most of the avi files did as well. None of the mpeg files could play in a number of media players including Windows Media Player 11, Nero Showtime version 8, WinAmp (newest release), and Pinnacle Studio. The players just remained blank. Does anyone have any ideas why none of the recovered mpeg files would play? Is ther a way to adjust the recovery settings to make the recovery better for this type of file? BTW, the description for the mpeg files was "Deleted MPEG #" where # went from 1 to 547.

Hi Jason69,

Basically if you are unable to open a file, it means that the file has become corrupted and theres not much more FR can do to recover these files.

I do not understand why it was only the mpeg files which were recovered but could not play. I would think that it would be more random in the recovery of video files which would play - why did most of the wmv and avi files play, but none of the mpeg?

Please try to explain this to me.

The mpegs you are trying to recover may belong to a VOB (which is a DVD file) and such mpegs (if recovered) cannot be played because it does not have all the information required for the player to play the content.
