Almost two weeks ago I was having problems with my modem. I tried to correct this by uninstalling and reinstalling it but it would install and work on Com5 with an IRQ of (0). The win98 device manager doesn't recognize com5 at all and really doesn't like an IRQ of (0).
If i switch the modem to com one and try to correct things through the resource tab I geet the message "can't read port name from registry."
So I thought if I opened it up and swtiched the modem to a diffrent slot would fix this.
It didn't work. But another problem cropped up.
Since I swtiched my modem when I turn on my pc it loads up until the spalsh screen, pauses and reboots. Then claims that windows wasn't loaded fully and insists on booting in safe mode. It boots in safemode, which doesn't do what i need. It does this anytime i turn my computer on right now

Any helpful suggestions?

Thanks

when in Safe Mode, call up the Device Manager (from Properties of My Computer).
check if a device is marked with error (in Safe Mode not all devices will load).
if you see your modem listed, remove it.
shut-down (reboot) to Normal Mode.
Re-install the modem.
