View Full Version : unwanted connection
Whenever I restart or start my computer after it has been shutdown a dialog box will come up in the upper right hand corner of the screen and it will say "dialing" and it will dial my internet connection. I have unchecked dial connection automatically, and went into Internet Explorer and checked never dial a connection. How can it be changed so it wont connect automatically? Thanks in advance Jace

you may have recently installed COM+ (on Win95 most likely). After installation, this software will try to connect to other machines. J will give you a registry setting later when J have my Win95 machine running.

try following:
Open a new dokument in Notepad.
Cut-and-past three lines below.
Save eg as "AutoConnect.Disable.reg".
Double-click to merge this file into the Registry (depending on your settings you may have to richt-click the file icon and choose Merge from the pop-up menu).
------------- cut and paste ------------
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\OLE]
"EnableRemoteConnect"="N"
--------------------------------------------
correction: must of course be a "N" - not -"Y" !

Jace,
Richards suggestion is right on. if it still tries to connect, go to Start>Run, and type msconfig, click the startup tab and look for something relating to your ISP. On Compaqs... Cpqinet, Cpqns and Service Coinnection are set to run and connect at startup.
