Max number of buddies on AIM buddy list is 160?

Is there a way to jack up the number of buddies I can have on my buddy list?

The max is 160 in the newest version, and someone told me a registry key I could edit, and I did so, but it just resets when I sign off.

Can someone help me out with this? Greatly appreciated if you can..

i had this same problem ;\.
i found out the solution though.
navigate yourself over to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\America Online\AOL Instant Messenger (TM)\CurrentVersion\Buddy

and there you will see a key -- "maxbuddies", edit the key -- switch over from hex to decimal, and enter your new value.

this will work up to "999" as far as i know.

That's the key I was told to modify before, so I changed the value to 400, and whenever I signed back in it would reset.

I tried 250 just then, and it still reset.

Do you have to be able to add more than 160 right after changing? Like, modify the key, add x amount of buddies, then it won't reset?

I can't do that, cuz I only hav like 34 buddies...heh...AOL is evil...but I'm asking for a friend who has 160 family and friends. He wants to add the rest of his friends, but he can't.
