Hi:
I'm using the evaluation version of DiskSuite 1.0.0.66 and suddenly, when I try using the Repair boot record for WinVista I get a warning box popping up telling me 'This operation can crash your system if used wrong'. Is this a PCTools warning? I didn't see it the first few times I used the utility. What's it all about?

Thank you.

John

Hi John,

We have added this message into the latest version of PCT Disk Suite warning the user before running a Repair boot record. You should only run this if you have a boot record problem. Running a Repair boot record on a working computer has the potential to cause the PC to malfunction if incorrectly used, hence providing the warning.

Thank you, Anthony.

How do I know if the boot record is corrupt and I should run the repair?

Also one of the reasons I questioned whether this was a 'real' PCTools message is that it's not very well written. I'd suggest a change in the wording, if I may:

'ATTENTION! This operation can crash your system if used wrongly. Are you sure you wish to continue with the operation? You should only run this repair if you have a problem with your boot record.'

Thank you.

Repair operations should be used for disks which are bootable but can't be used as bootable because the boot sector is corrupted (so bootable disk can't load). This behavior can occur if a user has several bootable disks (not the one that is booted on that moment) and one of them is broken.
An example is when a user has two bootable physical disks with XPP and Vista. On boot time a user can load XPP which works well, but when selecting Vista, it will not load.)

If user is running DiskSuite it means that current bootable disk is working properly :)

Thanks for your feedback, I have passed it on for consideration :)
