View Full Version : iAntiVirus occasionally uses 90% of my processing power.

I am having issues with iantivirus using up to 98% of my processing power. It happens for an extended period of time and doesn't seem to stop. I have to disable real time protection and then re-enable it to resolve the issue. I have to do this a couple times a day. I have this installed on three different computers. Two iMacs, and one macbook pro, all of which are newer than two years. Is there anyone else having this issue? It happens on all of my computers that have the program on them. What can I do to permanently fix this issue?

Hi dhansen_ftm,

Could you send us information from this thread: http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56352. It would be great if you can send this from all affected PC's. I have sent you a private message with my email address.

Do you know if any progress has been made here?

I haven't used iAntiVirus in months because of this, and I booted it up today.

As soon as it's done updating, iavd takes the cpu usage up to 100%

Hi Anthony,
How long do we run the system profiler for? (as mentioned in your post http://www.pctools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56352)

Do we turn it on before the problem occurs and let it go? Or do we just run it while the problem occurs?

Chris

I don't think you need to recreate the problem to send this info. The profiler just lists what type of mac you have and all the applications you have installed etc... just a detailed list of information that may help the guys at PCT to set up a similar environment to try and reproduce the problem.

just downloaded iAntiVirus and it was using ~ 50% of my processor until I turned the auto-protection off and back on again...

From time to time my MacBook Pro's temps go way up and fans spin at over 5k RPM.
Upon checking Activity Monitor I find that iavd CPU is at nearly 100%.
This occurs while" Protect My Mac" is enabled.
I'm using iAntivirus version 1.3.6
Hopefully there's a fix for this.

I'm running iAntivirus on 4 macs, including a "hackintosh." On all of them, I am seeing this same CPU issue when "Protect my Mac" is enabled. As a result, I have disabled Protect my Mac on all of those computers, but I still use iAntivirus for scheduled virus scans.

Manually resetting "Protect my Mac" does seem to fix the problem, but it tends to re-occur fairly quickly, I'd estimate within an hour most of the time. I'm a bit of a CPU efficiency nerd, hence I gave up on the realtime protection, but I still appreciate the availability of a good free antivirus scanning product. I will be happy to offer system profile information if needed to help identify the problem.

Best Regards,
Richard

I have the same issue in my Snow Leopard MBP.
It's the iavd process, that causes the problem.
Stop/start solves it.

I too have just experienced the high CPU usage (around 50% of my Core2Duo) but I'm not sure what triggered it.
I had to disable/re-enable realtime protection to get it to stop consuming so much CPU.

Still have the same problem. I will not purchase the program until this is solved!!

I have noticed this on my machine as well. Whenever this happens, I will restart my computer, and then it takes a while before it happens again. What is going on here, and how can I fix it? Thanks.
