This is a revisit of an old issue, but this time it is different.
PC running Vista, SD with antivirus V6.0.1.441

Error message is "Email protection Disabled The LSP library required for email guard cannot be installed as a conflicting LSP library is already installed. Email protection is now disabled. Please refer to help doc for more info on LSP".

This happened after installation, registering and loading smartupdate database.

note your SWwAV custom settings, if any.
uninstall SDwAV.
go here to reset your Winsock LSP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
re-install SDwAV and any custom settings.

Hi Allanhobbs,

Please see the PM I sent. We require the lsp logs in order to check this out further.

Hi Anthony

Being new to this I deleted my reply to your mail and yor mail.

Basically the bat file won't run on Vista, it doesnt like the ">"
THe executed statement is C:\Pro............\NetworkLayer\LSPList.txt
It looses the "pctcffix.exe -L > " and therefor has error that program not found.

Cheers
Allan

I have double checked this and basiccally, the LSP on your system is not compatible with SD's LSP, therefore Email Guard will be disabled by default.

So, why will not the Microsoft reset work?

It has in the past for me with similar problems.

My guess is, you probably had a conflict with the LSP or a problem with the LSP in the past and the reset fixed it up. But with allanhobbs the LSP within SD is not installing at all because on that incompatibility with another programs LSP, so a reset probably won't work.

thanks c_edge

he probably needs run a belarc to see what might be causing the conflict, yes?

The only way to solve this problem is to remove the 3rd party LSP that is currently on your system. However, that LSP may be needed for another program on your PC. We cannot install our LSP because it is not compatible with the LSP that is already on your system.

We tested the tool I sent in my previous reply and it is working on Vista. Make sure you are running the LSP tool in an Admin account. Once we receive the LSP list, we can see what it is.

I will check that it is admin and try again - Thanks

Hi Anthony

Okay - Vista version is Home Premium;
I have a screen shot of the results as I turned on echo so as to see what is happening.
The interesting thing you will see that is causing the problem is that the command is being corrupted - "pctcffix.exe -L > LSPList.txt" is actually executing as; "pctcffix.exe -L__1>LSPList.txt" - where __ is 2 spaces. The rest of the line is fine.

I hope I am doing this right - I an inserting an image to show the command lines.

Run it if Achen asks for it or if you wish to see what you have on the PC.

Yes. It is a good tool to keep handy.

What's Running will show your active processes, sefrvices, etc. It wil not get to your LSP issue.

To check which LSPs are installed on your Vista system, use netsh winsock show catalog command.

Hi Anthony

I've tried haapy's suggestion and enclosed an attachment. Will this help? :)

Thanks :) Yep, it looks like you have a parental control lsp installed, hence SD will not install our LSP to avoid any potential conflicts. Please note that Email Guard will be disabled due to this reason and you will still be protected with SD. If anything malicious comes via emails, File Guard will detect any threats if it tries to run.

Thanks Anthony
Is there a downside to using it this way?
This is actually my daughter's laptop with the issue and as she has 3 young children under 10 I felt that the parental control was a must.

Thanks for your much appreciated assistance and also to haapy for yours.

Email Guard would add another layer of protection, but I can't see any downside as long as File Guard has been enabled :) as anything that tries to run, FG will detect this. No problems for the assistance :D
