Vista Home Basic stopped seeing the DVD combo drive

My Vista Home Basic all of a sudden stopped seeing my DVD R Combo drive. I thought the drive failed so I bought a new one and it still doesn't see it. It shows up as a drive in the BIOS as ATAPI iHAP222 8, but not in My Computer. I can see it in the device manager with a small yellow exclamation point.

The yellow exclamation pioint means that there is a problem with the driver.

IN device manager, try right clicking on the device with the yellow exclamation mark and then click uninstall.

Then in device manager, click action, check for hardware changes.

If this does not fix it there could be a problem with your upper/lower filters in your registry.

Let me know how the first attempt goes first.

I did what you said and after scanning for changes the exclamation point is still there
