I've tried various ways to solve the numlock puzzle in Win ME without success: I added NumLock "OFF" and tried InitialKeyboardIndicators without results.

Both of the above were tried at:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard

In fumbling around in the Registry I noted a similar key:
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\ControlPanel\Microsoft\Input Devices\Keyboard

This had NumLock "OFF" in it already...

Another question: are numlock, NumLock, and NUMLOCK equivalent in the Registry? I've seen all 3 capitalizations but have only tried NumLock.

This lack of a space causes it to show immediately after the earlier item. This looks like a typo which someone made during installation but as a new user I don't dare remove it lest I cause some obscure problem.

Any suggestions on how to get numlock to stay off at bootup in WinME would be appreciated -- while this isn't a show stopper it is frustrating.

Any advice on the oddity noted in my Registry would also be most helpful.

Don`t bother fiddling with the regestry on this one. Try changing your setup in Cmos settings prior to winows loading. usually hitting the "delete" key before windows starts to load.
