I have adobe design studio cs3+ it has been on my computer for over a year now with no problems. Recently I had a total system melt down on my gateway laptop. So I had to do a "factory restore" since doing the restore i have not been able to reinstall my adobe programs. I have been told that this is do to the fact that i did not deactivate my program before the restore (one of Adobes BS things). Now i am fairly sure that the registry is not totaly cleaned when i do the "factory restore" because when i reinstalled outher programs several of them already had the serial code filled in the boxes i did not have to retype them in. so if it is a reg/h_key that is not erased during the restore how would find and erase it so i can reinstall my programs. I would call Adobe but my service plan is over and they are being a bit of
D@#$%s about helping me.
Please help i am a web designer and graphic designer and not having these programs are costing me serious money.
This is all on a vista home basic and a gateway laptop

Did you do a hard drive format prior to factory restore?

If not, that could be an issue.

No I did not. This gateway come with a partioned harddrive. On the second drive is a "Recovery" all i did was press F5 several times on boot up then tell the computer to do a "factory recover"

Do you have recovery CD'S?

Hmm...what about running one of those real time registry and file access utilities while trying to reinstall Adobe? Obviously when the install halts or when trying to start up the program halts, you should be able to see what registry keys or hidden files which were being accessed.

haapy, what do you think?

Out of my league on this one. In concept it sounds like a shot, but I am not familiar with any of those tools.

It sounds like the recovery CDs perform a windows repair instead of a clean install which is why things are fubar. If GTP's idea does not work, and Adobe offers no solution, the only thing that I can think of is a clean Windows install.

If that is the case, make sure that you back up your data first.

Sometime a year or so ago I downloaded a utility which monitors the registry and file access in real time. I will dig around in my 2GB of software downloads and try to find it!

I use process explorer, but the utility I am thinking of only does two things -- monitor all registry and file access activity in real time. I will try to hunt down the util in the morning when I am having my coffee.

This is not Process Explorer, it is Process Monitor and it does monitor reg and file changes in real time.

Check the link.

This is all a bit over my head i am already a bit leary of mess'n around in the reg. I do not have any disks all the recovery is on the partitioned side of the drive i was told last night that i may have did a partial recovery instead of a full. this may be a option in the recovery program i will do a recovery tonight and check.
