View Full Version : Why is it so big and large?

Why is Browser Defender toolbar so big and large? Why can't it be one button only? It just takes space from the browsing window. A button with an arrow, for people to expand and see options like settings, etc, would be more pleasant, than a so huge toolbar.

Hi DarkButterfly,

Thanks for the feedback. Currently in Firefox there is an option to reduce the size of the toolbar, however, this is not yet available in the IE version. We will be adding this feature for future versions.

Yes, I agree. I was even wondering why not make it run like - and I apologize for advertising - the same way AVG LinkScanner does? It doesn't need the toolbar to be installed, in order to protect. It runs in the background.

Maybe something to consider? (The size is the only thing that I dislike... ;))

Thanks

m00nbl00d: I've been hacking the latest version of the Firefox toolbar to see what is going on inside and I found an interesting configuration option:

browser.bdtoolbar.forcenetbook which was set to false. I set it to true and nothing happend but when I started my browser up again the toolbar had changed to a button. Cool. Maybe this should be the default.

Interesting... I rarely use Firefox, though. So, I guess I would had never come across that.

Yes, I agree that that button should be the default. Is a more elegant solution.

I'd like to see Browser Defender protect other users of other browsers as well, by running in the background, alike AVG LinkScanner (again, sorry for advertising, but is just to let you guys know what I mean).

The AVG application will protect its users regardless of the browser they use. And, to be honest, I'm quite fed up with security applications only serving the purposes of IE and Firefox.

You may understand by now that I use Opera. Personally, I can mitigate most problems by tweaking Opera only to allow certain contents to web sites I trust. But, not everyone knows what Opera allows them to do. I guess those same users wouldn't even bother to tweak Internet Explorer for that matter. Or, would actually make them freak out everytime XYZ site wouldn't work as it should.

So, this is where tools like Browser Defender come in hand, to help those users.

I really believe that such security application shouldn't only protect IE and Firefox users. There are other browsers. And, the best part, you don't even have to find ways to make it work for each browser. You only have to make it work as a background service and protect regardless of the browser.

And, it could be actually done only to start the service when the user would start the browser. The time that it (Browser Defender) is actually needed.

Cheers

Unlock the toolbars then move it up to the right side of the File Edit View Favorites Tools Help line to take up one less line.
