Hi.
I have a AMD Duron 600 processor on a Gigabyte Technology Co. 7IXE4 main board. I can't adjust the clock speed of the Processor through BIOS, how can I do this manually?
Also what are the side effects of this? and what effect may it have on performance. Does anyone know how high it can go?
Thanks in advance.

Here's an article on how to overclock the AMD Duron. Unfortunately it is not a simple case of changing jumper settings and may require some soldering on the motherboard. The article explains the procedures used for locking the frequency of the processors and how to unlock them.

Personally I would not overclock the processor as what you may end up doing is reducing the reliable lifetime of the processor. In most cases processors are not the bottlenecks in systems so you may end up with a slight improvement in performance but it could be costly in the long run.

Cheers. That looks like a bit too much effort. Never been too good with a soldering iron, and if I do mash the thing up with it (very likely) I can't afford a new one. Thanks
